In late 2002, Outdoor Synergy, LLC, (ODS) purchased the production rights of the Northwest Kayaks brand of boats. The principles of Outdoor Synergy are, themselves, Pacific Northwest outfitters, and have been enthusiastically paddling these kayaks for years. They recognized that, in an industry that has strayed from the small, personal relationship of boat building into one of corporate mergers and big business, there is still a demand from the discriminating paddler who seeks uncompromised quality, craftsmanship and close, personal relationships. As outfitters, we require the best, and seek to deliver the best by handcrafting and personally inspecting each kayak that passes through our doors. We are equally committed to developing and improving the boats to offer the best endurance-outfitted sea touring kayak on the market today.

We continue to watch the kayak industry in their quest to find materials and processes that offer cheaper ways of manufacturing kayaks. Although this pursuit has brought about many innovative designs and processes, ODS made a conscientious decision not to compromise quality in the manufacturing of our kayaks. Handcrafting each Northwest Kayak is the personal responsibility of every member of the ODS team. Every member of the Outdoor Synergy family is not only involved in the handcrafting of our kayaks: they are paddlers, instructors and guides. They know the importance and beauty of a boat that is built to last a lifetime. Safety, comfort, speed, dependability and quality are the functional imperatives at Outdoor Synergy.

Each Northwest Kayak is built by hand, using a vacuum bagging manufacturing process for a high fiberglass-to-resin ratio with an incredibly hard surface finish. The basic layup exceeds industry standard for construction and durability. We use UV-resistant gelcoat finishes, stainless steel rudder cables, and our own RORS rudder design.

Our kayaks are outfitted using carefully designed deck line placement, including a fore deck paddle park system, perimeter safety line, and a rear deck self-rescue configuration. Spacious, watertight hatches easily accommodate all of the paddler’s gear and are a snap to use with our exclusive cam locking system. Bow and stern bulkheads ensure positive flotation, adjustable foot pedals and bow and stern carrying grips are included.
